July 05 A problem with my computer
I stuffed up and accidently downloaded an Adware Toolbar and had all sorts of crap coming up on my computer. The download that I hit had nothing to do with a toolbar. I searched the net to see if I could manually un-install and yes there was detailed instructions, but I could not find any of the keys to delete, so off it went to the computer shop to have a full wipe. You never know what else may had entered my computer. This adware is classed as low risk but high as a pain in the butt. Luckily I back up copies of my documents to an external hard drive just in case something like this happens. I do not worry about my programs as I have disks or download again from the net. Also it means every thing is new and up to date after installation. Other things that I forgotten about but luckily had backed up when I purchased my new computer, was my outlook addresses and favourites saved in my browser. Moral of the story Back up, Back up and Back up regularly. Nothing worst loosing all your photos, videos, correspondence, etc.

June 25 Self Inflicted Pain
I am sure it is not normal to inflict pain to oneself, but I do this all the time.
Anyone else suffers like me when they eat ice creams or frosty drinks. My wife reckons it is very amusing when I hold my forehead and groan in agony.
June 18 What no chicken ?
I picked my daughter up from work tonight and went to KFC. Was told they have run out of chicken. LoL
June 04 How important is spelling ?
Spell Check On Overload
Research by the Cambridge University has established it does not matter what order letters in a word are, as long as the first and last letters are correct, then the human brain can understand what is written

June 02 Blue Cheese = Sexy Dreams
Blue Cheese Experiment
I heard this on a talk back radio show today. Eat blue cheese and you will experience vivid sexy dreams. A male thing, maybe not, most of the call backs were female confirming this. I did our weekly shopping today and purchased some blue cheese to test this theory. Can not wait until my wife comes home to share the cheese and some red wine. She is completely unaware of my experiment hahahaha ! I have started early, eating cheese and biscuits with red wine while writing this. Main reason I am am hungry and if you are going to have cheese and biscuits you also have to have some wine. Lets see what happens tomorrow morning.
May 26 A ship with no water (Not kidding, see and believe)
The Charon
If you have been following my latest blog post and additions to my photo album ( My life) you may realize I have been going through my fathers photo album mainly to find photos of ships he has worked on so I can forward them to a ship site where I got all the info about the Centaur in the blog from. I found a photo of my Grandfather, my Father’s baby photo and a photo of the Charon, a ship he worked on. The photos of the Charon are at Derby, a port in the far north of Western Australia. (I am sure, not positive). Cattle were loaded here and taken in those days to Robb’s Jetty just south of Fremantle and maybe also shipped to some Asian countries again not too sure. In this region there are great tidal changes and you can see in the photos what happens. I know the Centaur had a reinforced hull so I would say the same applied to the Charon to avoid damage being left high and dry
May 25 A little piece of History about my Father and I
I have copied this from the website http://www.ssmaritime.com/centaur.htm (Hope you do not mind as the Centaur was a big part in my life as a child) My father was Chief Engineer on all ships mentioned. Did you ever sail on any of these ships? I am quite confident to say when we travelled to Sydney to greet my Father and the Centaur to cruise to Perth, my Mother, Brother and I were the first passengers except for the Captain’s son to travel on this ship before it started regular service between Fremantle, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore .
In the early sixties, Alfred Holt & Co placed an order with John Brown & Co to build the MS Centaur for their Australia Singapore service. Centaur replaced two ships on that service, the 3,633 GRT MS Gorgon built 1933 and scrapped 1964, and the 3,703 GRT MS Charon built in 1936, also scrapped in 1964. The Gorgon and Charon operated a successful service, but with newer ships operating from the Eastern States, superior passenger facilities were needed, and Centaur filled this need perfectly!
MS Gorgon Centaur proved to be one of the most attractive passenger-cargo liners to be built. Like all combination liners before her, they were built in the three island configuration, whereas Centaur featured a long forward freighter section and a high aft superstructure. This, combined with her tall streamlined funnel gave her an unusual, but attractive profile.
Note the vitiated air discharge outlets on the two forward masts Centaur had many unique features, whilst having excellent passenger accommodations; she also carried general, refrigerated and liquid cargoes. In addition, Centaur, like the ships she replaced, carried up to 700 head of cattle or some 4,500 sheep in her ’tween decks. Livestock was loaded both in Broome or Derby. Both these ports had operational difficulties as they have extreme tidal ranges, for this reason Centaur was built with a strengthened hull in order to cope having to sit on the bottom at an even keel at low tide. Another unusual item was that vitiated air was discharged through mast tops, as the image above clearly shows. Built for £1½ million sterling, MS Centaur was launched on June 20, 1963 by Mrs. Brand, the wife of the Western Australian Premier. After her official handover in January 1964, she departed for Liverpool, where she loaded cargo for Australia. On January 20, 1964, Centaur departed Liverpool for her delivery voyage to Australia, sailing via the Suez Canal to Singapore, after which she headed for Sydney where she arrived on February 23. Her first voyage out of Australia was under charter by the Australian Department of Commerce as a floating trade exhibition to the Far East and Japan. The charter concluded in April and finally Centaur headed for her Australian homeport Fremantle (Perth). She departed on her first official voyage on May 27, 1964 for Singapore, Port Klang (Kuala Lumpur) and George Town (Penang). Originally Centaur was registered under the ownership of Ocean Steamship Co. Ltd, part of the Alfred Holt Group. She was then transferred to another Alfred Holt subsidiary, the China Mutual Steam Navigation Co. In 1973 she was re-registered in Singapore, becoming part of the Eastern Fleets Ltd. It was not until 1978 that she was officially transferred to Blue Funnel Line, another Alfred Holt subsidiary. However, interestingly enough, from the day she was launched her funnel was painted in traditional Blue Funnel Line colours, although she was the first of the fleet to have a white hull.
Centaur was blessed with spacious decks, both aft and on the forward superstructure Centaur offered excellent accommodation for 196 one class passengers. Promenade (A) Deck had two luxury suites with private facilities located forward flanking the library. Amidships were ten twin cabins with private facilities. Aft was a spacious lounge overlooking Lido Deck and the ships pool. B and C Decks had seventy-seven 1-2-4 bedded/berth cabins, of which twenty-three 1 and 2 bedded cabins on B Deck had private facilities. B Deck also facilitated the Children’s facilities and a paddle pool, whereas the Dinning Room, Cinema and the Music Room were located on C deck.
Centaur was designed to offer her passengers a cruise-like voyage, rather than a liner service between Fremantle and Singapore, a voyage of five days. She became a popular ship, with round trip passengers, and those travelling on her one way, be it from Fremantle or Singapore, returning by air. Soon, Centaur became so popular; many of her passengers travelled thousands of kilometres across Australia to join one of her voyages.
In 1979, Blue Funnel Line placed her on a new service, a 25 day circle voyage from Fremantle to Singapore, Hong Kong and Manila, returning via Singapore to Fremantle. She remained on this service for the next three years, but as passenger numbers between Australia and Asia were rapidly declining, Centaur was taken out of service in 1982. On September 15, 1982, on a wet and windy day, Centaur departed Fremantle for her final official voyage to Singapore. This departure is recorded in Australian maritime history as the last ever liner departure out of Australia. All future ships based in Australia were round voyage cruise ships. Sadly, Blue Funnel Line concluded all their services from Australia at the same time.
After her arrival in Singapore, Centaur was chartered to the St Helena Shipping Company for one year. She headed for Cape Town with her funnel repainted in their colours. On November 5, 1982, she departed Cape Town for her first voyage to St Helena, continuing to Bristol England. She maintained this 24 day round voyages until the end of the twelve month charter contract in November 1983. Blue Funnel had hoped that St Helena Shipping Company would take up the purchase option, but this was not the case, and she was handed back to her owners. On her voyage back to Singapore she made one more call to Fremantle where she arrived on December 3. After three days in Fremantle, Centaur departed Australia on November 6, 1983, for the last time, arriving in Singapore on the 12th. Whilst laid up, she remained idle until 1985, when she was sold to the Shanghai Xing Shipping Co, who renamed her MS Hai Long, and placed her on the Hong Kong Shanghai service. At a later date she was renamed Hai Da. Although she has been seen in Hong Kong Harbour for a number of years, nothing is known of her fate. May 22 What are they doing to my park. Part 2
After an extremely wild night, I wandered down to our park to have a look about. I got caught in a rain squall and hid behind a tree, must admit it did not feel safe, at least no lightning.
I refer to my blog 28/3/09 and I decided to take some more photos to show the progress of the upgrade to my park.

May 21 1st Storm Perth Aust. 21/5/09
Hurray! After so long without rain we have our first storm for 2009. Coastal shot taken 3.45pm from North Cottesloe Webcam Downloaded using RealPlayer Pro.
22nd May 2009, 10:00 WST The Perth Airport was yesterday belted by the strongest wind gust to hit the facility in 15 years, the Bureau of Meteorology said today. A gust of 107kmh struck the airport yesterday afternoon – the strongest gust since May 23, 1994. Other areas that recorded severe wind gusts were Rottnest Island which recorded wind speeds of 95kmh, Ocean Reef (93kmh), and Jandakot (91kmh). Several areas also got rain with Bickley Hill near Kalamunda recording 30.4mm in the gauge. Perth received 12mm yesterday with a total of 24.2mm for the month of May. WA weather bureau climate information officer John Relf said the average rainfall for Perth during May 118mm. “A lot more rain needs to fall if we are to reach our average for May. There is a lot of work to be done,” he said. Meanwhile, Perth should brace for more thunderstorms which are coming on the back of cool unstable air coupled with a deep low weather system that is passing south.

Amazing Sailing
I came across this YouTube video of an offshore Trimaran. I thought we were mad when we took the surf cat out during our afternoon sea breezes here in Perth. We always managed to break something, the boat not us, even followed by a shark. I saw the light and started windsurfing.

May 09 Happy Mother’s Day (10th May 2009)
A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavour by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts
May 06 My Day
Woke up 8.30 am and took my antibiotic, now to wait 30 minutes before I can have breakfast. Switch on my computer and received a message from Microsoft with an answer to one of my problems, keep getting an Invitation message coming up on my messenger although I have none pending. They told me it is a known problem and they are working on it. Look to see what is new in Youtube plus other sites. Time for breakfast. Yippee! Looking for how to add speech bubbles to some photos for a future blog in the making. Found a few sites. Speechable seems the easiest. Time for my surgeons appointment in regards to my hernia operation last Friday, need to go. Had to change places with Eula in the car so I could park it. I’m all ok, three weeks off work. Lunch Time.
